The Red Light w/ Perspective

I picked up my children after a very long day at work. One was complaining that he was being bullied and then told me how he got in trouble for using explicit language, another missed the bus and had to be picked up in a different location, the third had yet another bad day at school complete with a note from the teacher, the two yr. old which is in the midst of potty training had an accident the moment we got to the car.  I was tired, upset, fed up, and the kids were once again gripping and bickering.

I was thinking how nice it would be to have an easy, quiet ride home with no drama…when a car ran a RED light and was inches from hitting my family before I swerved. Others beeped, the car kept going as if nothing happened, and I looked in my rearview mirror at the 4 joys that could have been taken from me so easily.

For all the trouble, and the drama, and the bickering, and the mishaps, and the bad days…I wouldn’t change a thing. I have 4 happy, healthy babies that I adore.  It could always be worse and it reminded me to treasure the moments with them no matter what they are.

  1. This is so powerful. A friend of mine once told me that her and her three boys fought all morning long because they were usually behind schedule. Try as she might to be ready the night before, something happened every morning that made them rush and stressed her out, which resulted in harsh words all the way to school. She said she would drop them off and spend the rest of the day praying that God would let her see them again. Being a mom is the hardest job in the world–yet the most rewarding. Thankfully, your almost-accident, wasn’t. Enjoy your four precious gifts this weekend.
